As induction can replace gas, EFD Induction is gearing up for green and sustainable growth.

1000 employees, 20 countries, 8 production locations and 1 billion in turnover. EFD Induction designs, builds, installs and maintains a complete range of industrial induction heating equipment worldwide.

The major challenge in companies such as EFD is to establish good common routines and easy access to information related to finance, production, logistics and purchasing globally, while at the same time maintain local interests and accurate currency.

Responsible for this challenge is Group IT director, Trygve Kristoffer Nilssen. Since 2017, he has worked to optimize the IT infrastructure, and after a number of upgrade projects and improvement measures, he is crystal clear on what the overall vision is:

“We have various ERP systems in the USA, India, China and Europe. Our vision is to bring together all the regions of the cloud-based Infor LN Cloud Suite. This means that we can establish ourselves more quickly in new regions, with no technical debt. This means that we avoid expensive upgrade projects because the cloud solution provides continuous access to new functionality. ”

The induction industry is growing rapidly.

EFD induction absolutely has to optimize its IT and infrastructure. As a result of the green shift, induction technology will largely be able to replace gas, and demand is growing every single year. EFD induction works with customers in wind turbines, automotive, pipe welding and oil, all of which have a great need for heating equipment.

“In order for us to deliver efficiently on the ever-growing demand, the ERP system will be central. It gives us information about the easiest or cheapest location to make purchases from, available production capacity and good conditions for efficient logistics”.

This is how EDF have built their IT landscape today

Their IT infrastructure mainly consists of 3 basic components: ERP, CRM and a product data system. The system for CRM and product data are used globally, but within ERP they have 4 different systems to meet local requirements. Their goal is to reduce this to one single global ERP system.

“The ambition is to gather the group under Infor Cloud Suite, as they have the best support for this type of discrete manufacturing. In addition, it takes "single logistic - multi finance" into consideration which means that a company can have many financial systems, but only one logistics system across borders”, Trygve says.

One of the recent improvements made is the cost calculation for components. Previously, the cost calculation for a component was the same no matter where in the world the component was produced, but now each location can have its own cost calculation depending on which factory it is produced at. This ensures EFD great financial gains.

“Now we can choose where a competent is best to be produced based on information in our ERP system that shows us the cheapest, closest and easiest location" - Trygve says

He also highlights other benefits from Infor LN: Simpler invoicing, a new project module that provides an overview of all costs in the ERP system related to various projects, and a currency system that saves a lot of time when goods and services are to be priced.

“Mazeppa is the only Norwegian partner of LN Infor. We know each other well, and have a long history together. We have great confidence in Mazeppa, it is safe to include them in our ERP projects. We always feel prioritized as a customer.”
